Last Friday Bedouin assailants attacked a Jewish shepherd, beating him with clubs, near Mevo’ot Yericho. The shepherd suffered injured and was taken for medical treatment. After reporting the incident to the police, they arrived and detained several Bedouins for questioning.
The Bedouin attackers seem to have likely come from the illegal Bedouin encampment of Ma'arjat, constructed within the jurisdiction of the Jewish community of Mevo’ot Yericho. Upon being attacked, the Jewish shepherd called for help, and eventually another shepherd and security forces arrived, leading the attackers to leave.

Residents of Mevo’ot Yericho say that prior to the attack anarchists and radical left-wing activists visited the region and incited the Bedouin. They note that this incitement has intensified in recent days and has been particularly focused on Jewish shepherds in the region. In particular, community representatives pointed to several posts published last week by Guy Hirschfeld, an extremist left-wing activist, who doxxed one shepherd and called him a terrorist.
Attorney Chaim Bleicher from the Honenu legal-aid organization, who is assisting the shepherd in filing a criminal complaint, said, "This is a serious incident, essentially a lynching, which must be addressed by police and security forces. The perpetrators must be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. Similar attacks could have ended even worse with victims being murdered as we saw just a few months ago. To prevent further attacks, the perpetrators should receive lengthy sentences that act as a deterrent.”
"The incitement on social media by radical left-wing activists encourages Bedouin to carry out violence against Jewish shepherds," said the owner of the flock. "We were very close to a repeat of the murder of Binyamin Achimeir, G-d forbid." Readers will recall that about five months ago, young shepherd Binyamin Achimeir, was murdered near Shiloh while grazing his flock. An Arab from the village of Duma attacked him with a knife and leaving behind a brutal scene.
Likewise, about two months ago, we exposed how Hirschfeld, who nearly every day files complaints about illegal construction by Jewish residents, was allegedl to have committed serious building violations at his own property. These include subdividing a residential house into multiple units without a permit, expanding the ground floor without a permit, and even encroachment on public property.
The local planning and building committee of the Mateh Yehuda Regional Council has been involved in legal proceedings against Hirschfeld and his mother for about three years.
Hirschfeld resides in a garden apartment in a home he owns in Eshtaol, while a family rents the upper floor.
Hirschfeld allegedly expanded the garden apartment by about 12 square meters and encroached on public property by building a wooden deck and fence of about 14 square meters.
Hirschfeld has been active for years in the "Ta’ayush" organization and in recent years has been involved with “Looking at the Occupation in the Eye." He refers to convicted pedophile and anarchist Ezra Nawi as his "mentor."
Recently, Hakol HaYehudi also reported on other activists who worked alongside Hirschfeld in the Jordan Valley, who claim to have heard from Bedouins that Hirschfeld threatened to report them to the Palestinian Authority if they did not follow his demands.
