The State Prosecutor's Office responded to the petition of the Lavi Organization demanding that it indict Mufti Ekrima Sabri. Hakol HaYehudi previiously exposed numerous statements of incitement by Sabri.

Attorney Anat Goldstein, a senior official in the State Prosecutor's Office, wrote on behalf of the prosecution requesting that the Court reject the petition and even impose court costs on the petitioners. The State Prosecutor’s Office claims that they have handled the complaint properly, despite the failure to indict Sabri for over two years.  Attorney General, Yariv Levin, also stated last year that the State Prosecutor's Office would take quick action on this matter. This all followed a series of reports by Hakol HaYehudi on Sabri’s incitement.

According to the prosecution, the investigation into Sabri's case was completed about seven months ago, but that because of the war they have been under additional stress and therefore “the work on this issue has not yet been completed." The prosecution added that "the decision on whether to prosecute him is already in its final stages."

In the meantime, Sabri continues to incite. On Sunday, he was interrogated again at a Jerusalem police station for his most recent calls to attack Jews. A few days prior, the Jerusalem police also served him him with a notice to evacuate his house, which was constructed illegally.

The Lavi Organization criticized the State Prosecutor's Office and explained that the prosecution's excuses are unacceptable. "Sabri is an integral part of the Iranian axis of terror waging war against Israel. Instead of prioritizing this case, the prosecution has dragged its feet in deciding to act.”

It is worth recalling some of Sabri’s numerous instances of incitement that were reported by Hakol HaYehudi. Sabri previously praised terrorists such as  Udai Tamimi who murdered IDF soldier Noa Lazar in Shuafat. Sabri also participated remotely in an Iranian conference alongside Hezbollah leaders, Houthis rebels, Hamas, and Islamic Jihad. Sabri also took part in a conference organized by the Islamic Jihad in Gaza.

Sabri was first appointed by Arafat to serve as the Mufti of Jerusalem on behalf of the Palestinian Authority, and over the years published many instances of incitement against Israel, including religious justifications for suicide bombings during the Second Intifada, and anti-Semitic statements reminiscent of the Protocols of the Elders of Zion.

In recent years, Sabri has become close to Turkish President Erdogan, acting as his point person in Israel. Due to his ties with the Muslim Brotherhood, Sabri’s entry into the Netherlands was denied, which created a bizarre situation in which Sabri is able to move about freely in Israel while being classified as a terrorist abroad.

Sabri was also involved in the controversy surrounding metal detectors placed at the gates to the Temple Mount after several Druze police officers were murdered there. At the time, Sabri issued a religious ruling - a "fatwa" - prohibiting Muslims from passing through the metal detectors. This led to major riots in East Jerusalem after which the Israeli government ultimately backed down and removed the metal detectors.
